SPORT & OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Many students come to us with sporting aspirations
and talents. Our aim is to acknowledge, foster and develop
these by encouraging participation as well as excellence.
Many of our teams and athletes excel at provincial
and national level. Personal fitness and healthy activity
are encouraged, and an interest in leisure activities
is fostered for the years beyond school.
Annual college sports days are held for swimming and
athletics and all students are encouraged to participate
in these at an appropriate level.
The College has adopted the “Fair Play”
Charter with the motto “Play Hard, Play Fair”
and believes that through participation in team sports
many valuable and character-building life skills are
learned.
Sports exchanges provide many girls with the opportunities
for competition outside Hawke’s Bay and they enjoy
the broadening experiences that participation provides.
Through sporting involvement our students develop:
Leadership • Reliability
• Team spirit • Initiative • Tolerance
• Commitment • Confidence • Physical
fitness • Goal setting strategies • Cooperation

An Outdoor Experience from two to three days is a
feature of the curriculum at both Year 9 and 10 levels.
This is revisited at Year 13 for a one-day adventure.
Students at Year 12 level are offered a Recreation
programme which involves participation in a range of
physical activities both in school and in the local
community.
Activities offered focus on the development of self-esteem
and group skills through adventure, challenge, trust,
leadership and cooperative experiences.
