Continuing to build the sisterhood of Sacred Heart College will be a key focus for this year’s Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl.
Together with the student leadership, and with the support of principal Maria Neville-Foster, Timea Cracknell and Lucy Harvey endeavour to create an environment where students are united and empowered to achieve their God-given potential – inspired by the girls who have gone before them.
“Our goal for this year is to preserve and strengthen the sisterhood. We want everyone to be able to understand and demonstrate what it means,” Timea says.
They believe it is more important than ever before. The ongoing pandemic and last year’s lockdowns taught them the importance of relationships, and lifting up others when they can’t themselves.
By focusing on either end of the student cohort – those in their first and final years – they hope it “hugs the school and impacts everyone”.
HEART: Hope, Equity, Aroha, Respect, Tenacity – an acronym created by last year’s student council – is an important step in achieving their goal, Timea says.
“That’s what Mrs Neville-Foster wants us to take away from Sacred Heart and it is what we all strive to live by,” Lucy said.
This was reinforced at the school’s Leadership Mass, held last month, where they formally stepped into their new roles.
Ianeta Mauga (Holderness House Leader), Anna Haronga (Barbier House Leader), Tessa Coory (Marian House Leader), Georgia Kerins (Aubert House Leader), Sarah Alawneh (Academic Leader), Courtney Beams (Sports Leader), Ella Freeman (Cultural Leader), Alliyah Quilaton (Arts Leader), Eva Deihl (Community Leader), and Tibwea Ititarawa (Catholic Character Leader) were presented with their prefect badges.
The theme for the Mass was based on recognising the God-given talents everyone is given for the good of the Sacred Heart Community.
Mrs Neville-Foster said: “The ability to lead is a talent and as a Catholic, we recognise that our talents are given to us by God to be used for all and for good”.
